Roberte came back to visit us with her mum and her guardian, after the delicate surgery to remove the facial tumour. The check-ups are positive and today Roberte is doing well, with a new dream: opening a small hairdressing shop.
The distribution of school backpacks across the villages of Benin has ended: this year 234 children and young people are supported by the project. A journey made of meetings, enrolments and relationships, to accompany every child towards a new school year.
In Mperkommou a monitoring meeting was held with the women of the cooperative that processes rice and soy, to review results, management and next steps together. In Koutchime, Vovoli Salam is getting ready for the start of works on the new facility dedicated to the cooperative's activities.
On 14 September the new school year began in Benin. The children of the Maison des Espoirs have also gone back to school with their uniforms and new backpacks, ready for a year of school, growth and new opportunities.
In Manta, training has started for 20 new young women, with activities on entrepreneurship, saving and resource management. A new step towards building opportunities and economic independence.
The Maison is now brighter, more colourful and more welcoming. We also bought a new motorbike, a practical tool to accompany the 15 children to medical visits and daily activities.
The centre remains a reference point for child protection in Benin: in recent weeks it has welcomed new children in vulnerable situations, offering them care, listening and a safe environment.
In recent months, some supporters met in person the children followed by the project. Moments that show how school support becomes a real, lasting relationship.
With the rains, work in the fields has resumed: the power tiller is running again and the cooperative members are preparing the soil for the new sowing.
A new partnership has begun with the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Abomey-Calavi, strengthening research, environmental protection and sustainable development.
